Almanar Voluntary Organization signs MOU with the Ministry of Justice on Legal Aid

Almanar Voluntary Organization has an extended history of working in providing legal aid and legal awareness-raising. On 12 May 2015, Almanar signed a memorandum of understanding with Sudan’s Ministry of Justice-Legal Aid Department.

The MOU aims to ensure the dissemination of legal awareness, accompanied by the provision of legal aid, and legal consultations. The MoU signing came as the crowning event at a workshop organized by Almanar which discussed the role of the Legal Aid Department and civil society organizations in disseminating a culture of legal awareness.

 

During the workshop, Almanar briefed participants on its long history of working in the field of legal aid and awareness.  Paralegals and members of popular courts who have been trained by Almanar also shared their experience with Almanar and how the organization’s support has enhanced their capacity in the area of legal awareness.
The MOU signing ceremony was honored by the presence of the General Counselor for Administrative and Financial Affairs at the Ministry of Justice, the General Manager of Khartoum State Prisons, the Head of the Legal Aid Department-Ministry of Justice, the Administrative Manager of Omdurman Women’s Prison, as well as administrative consultants at the Legal Aid Department.
